Water damage

The chimney flashing had failed and was leaking above. Once it was fixed and dried out we could begin.

When dealing with water damage you need to ensure the source of the problem is fixed before attempting to decorate. If not then the problem will most likely reoccur.

Spray finish

All windows, surrounds and handles are covered to protect them from overspray using a variety of masking and precision tape, paper and special decorating film.

Spraying, versus traditional brush or roller methods, can give the look and feel of a flawless factory finish. Using the latest in High Volume Low Pressure sprayers you are able to control the amount of paint and minimise overspray (the excess paint that hits areas which you are not aiming for).

Preparation, protection and quality workmanship.

The secret of successful decorating is in the preparation. The amount or preparation required varies as no two projects are the same and this will be assessed prior to providing a written quotation. Walls may have hairline cracks to fill or larger ones that benefit from scrim tape and a suitable filler. Sometimes applying lining paper before painting is the best approach based on the conditions presented. I will ensure that we talk through the processes used during the consultation as I want to ensure that expectations are met and your desired outcome is achieved.

Whilst in your home I will treat it with the care and respect it deserves. Surfaces will be covered with plastic sheeting to protect them and ensure that they are not marked or damaged whilst I work.

Once I have finished I will quality check all work and if there is anything that you are not satisfied with, correct it at the time promptly. Then put your home back together as I found it. Any paint that is left for touch ups I will label so you know where it is for.

Paint choices.

Certain rooms in the house require a more sensitive approach and with the advancements in paint technology there are new options in the market, especially for those that are sensitive to allergens.

Using a hypoallergenic paint for a nursery or those that suffer with asthma means the challenges usually faced when decorating are potentially reduced.

Please ask if you think this is a solution that may help you.

There are many paint choices on the market, each with their own benefits and some with certain draw backs. Thankfully over time I have worked with many different paint manufacturers and know what has good opacity and is suitable for different conditions.

Please let me know if you plan to purchase the paint separately as retail and trade paints offer very different results. I do have accounts with certain industry leading manufacturers and benefit from a discount off the regular price, a saving that I can then pass onto you.

The humidity of the bathroom.

A bathroom can be a place to unwind after a stressful day or grab a quicker shower before running out the door. You want one that is extra durable for the bathroom walls and ceiling due to the high moisture content.

Some bathrooms are susceptible to mould more than others and whilst painting with a mould inhibiting paint is part of the solution, you need to ensure that you are not creating the optimum environment for it to grow. Plenty of ventilation is needed be it with an automatic fans or keeping windows and doors open to disperse excess moisture in the air.
